The Guide to A Dewy, “No Makeup” Look

(model above: unknown)

I don’t know about you but lately the “no makeup” soft look has been taking over my world. It’s something so satisfying about a light and subtle makeup look in a community of full faced glam. The “no makeup” look can be achieved with only a few products in the mix and the best part is that you don’t have to apply too much product during the routine. Not only does it save product and time, but it can give your face a little break from your heavier routine.

For this guide I definitely want to focus on dewy and glow, giving your face a moisturized and light yet complete coverage. I am obsessed with achieving this look for work, school, running errands, or even normal family and friend get-togethers. Hell, I would even wear it to the grocery store opposed to absolutely no makeup at all and only SPF, because I just feel less bare.

Below I’ve complete your 7-step easy guide to a dewy, “no makeup” look, that just may be so good that it could trick your peers into thinking you have the best natural, hydrated-looking skin ever. I love especially that this look isn’t so time consuming and you could pull it off even if you were to wake up late. Before you start the routine guide, make sure to do your usual skin care cleansing, exfoliating, toning, spot treatment, etc. You want a fresh face before everything!

Step 1: Primer | Spotlight: Too Faced Hangover Primer

Primer is always your best friend, but especially for a “no-makeup” natural look. You’ve got to prime those blemishes for a smooth application and secure your look in place all day.

Step 2: Coverage | Spotlight: MAC BB Beauty Balm SPF 35

For coverage I highly recommend a BB cream or tinted moisturizer with a SPF of 30 or higher. I don’t care what race you are or what skin tone you have, you need SPF in your life. As a black woman, I feel like this is more than necessary to mention due to the myth passed from generation to generation that black people do not need to wear sunscreen. There are tons of great SPF products out there, but like mentioned before, make sure it’s 30 or above. No need to apply a thick coverage

Step 3: Eyebrows | Spotlight: NYX Tame & Frame Brow Pomade

When you’re doing brows for a natural “no-makeup” look, you want to go for the almost feathery, natural strokes technique. Not too much product on the brows, but just enough for fullness. Try to avoid harsh lines.

Step 4: Blush | Spotlight: Maybelline New York Fit Me Blush

Blush is essential when adding some color onto your face. Just a subtle swoop will do you justice, for a “natural” light flushed look. Not too much product on the brush, use the tapping technique if you need to.

Step 5: Highlighter | Spotlight: NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator

Now to add some highlighter or liquid illuminator, because after all we got make sure you get that dewy glow of a thousand suns. Just adding a bit to your highlight points with your finger will give you a more natural effect, and not anything too heavy.

Step 6: Tinted Balm | Spotlight: EOS Mood Stones Lip Tint

I absolutely love lip tints or tinted balms for natural looks. They give your lips moisture, health & color all in one and the color comes out so subtle and nice on the lips.

Step 7: Setting Spray | Spotlight: Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray

That 7th and final step, but definitely not the least, is setting your face with your setting spray. You want to lock that look in of course so that you can go on with your day with flawless, natural-looking makeup that is dewy, glowwy & quite frankly sexy.
